As a non-believer I am always delighted to find great truths in believers writings. Re: your op/Ed today in the NYT, the following quote from the Talmud is what keeps me going when my courage fades:
“Do not be daunted by the enormity of the world’s grief. Do justly now. Love mercy now. Walk humbly now. You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to abandon it.”
Thank you, Adam, for a great capture of essential reading and listening...saved me from guessing...And, Happy New Year. I can't wait to see the crop of fruits from your intellect tree and labor of research and thinking in 2024.
I can't, but I love to imagine the effort, focus, and dedication it must take you to put one of your books in our hands!
Every time I get a book, I read it; I give it to my grandkids and say: Read, learn, enjoy, and share with your teacher, anybody who listens. It is not paper that I am handing to you with words sprayed on every page, but here lives a man, his soul, his heart, his mind, his experiences, his emotions, and traces of his fingertips on every page.
I'd love to read it but don't have a subscription. My therapist recently told me I over-empathize and it doesn't help anyone and only hurts me. Kind of eye-opening.
Hi Dr Grant: With all due respect you have got to get your team to STOP posting links that have paywalls like the NYT has. This practice is loutish and in considerate. Thank you.
Dear Adam Grant; In my deep sorrow for Israel and my grief over several close family members diagnosed this week with Cancer your article in the New York Times made me cry but also made me feel better. I believe now I have been taking in all of the grief and now feel free to offer compassion as well as grieve. I have been following you and have gained so much but never thought to write until today. My heart goes out to you and thank you.
